Adding Pineapple to our Pale Ale

Today, we’re moving our American Pale Ale to the secondary.

We won’t be dry hopping this beer, we’re adding pineapple.  When doing some research, we opted to go with one of the big cans of pineapple from Sam’s Club.  I was afraid if we used fresh pineapple, we may not get something as flavorful.  Fruit is such a gamble.  Sometimes you can end up with the juiciest piece ever, other times it could be mealy and bland.

Pineapple Pale Ale

This can contains no sugar, and canned with real pineapple juice.  So, we poured the whole thing in there.  I’ve heard before that you should add 2 lbs of fruit per gallon of beer.  But, I figured the 6 lbs that are in the can should be enough in the 5 gallons of beer.  We want the pineapple to be there, but I don’t want it to be overkill.  But, we’ll see how it turns out in a couple weeks.
